Celebrities Voice Support for Jennifer Aniston’s Tabloid Criticism

In an op-ed for the Huffington Post on Tuesday, Jennifer Aniston slammed the media for constantly circulating pregnancy rumors and engaging in body shaming. Her candid takedown of those practices in tabloids gained the support of many of her fellow performers.

Ghostbusters” star Melissa McCarthy agrees with Aniston “one hundred thousand billion percent,” she said.

“Everybody needs to stop tearing down women,” said McCarthy to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s always about the way we look — saying, ‘He’s very interesting,’ ‘He’s a good writer,’ ‘She’s looking older than she was last time we saw her.'”

“It’s a ridiculous thing. I just hope it gets to the point where it’s embarrassing for people to have such a shallow thought,” she added.

Aniston’s “Horrible Bosses” and “The Switch” co-star, Jason Bateman, took to twitter to support Aniston with a simple phrase: “This kicks ass.”

Margaret Cho also commended Aniston on her essay, saying, “Good for her! #JenniferAniston.”

Former CNN anchor Piers Morgan responded to Aniston’s op-ed with his own column in Daily Mail. Although he sympathizes with the frenzied responses from paparazzi and the constant scrutiny, he also thought her stance was hypocritical.

“I do think the least stars like Jennifer Aniston can do in return for the massive financial and career boost these fake covers bring them is to stop pretending it’s all everyone else’s fault that impressionable young girls struggle with their own beauty and body images as a result of seeing perfect photos of Jennifer Aniston,” wrote Morgan.

He commended Aniston for going public but added that she needs to change her approach. 

“If she really wants to make a difference to this ugly process, she can start by getting a tiny bit uglier herself and letting us see what she REALLY looks like on a magazine cover. Then the little girls she’s so worried about can know exactly what they are aspiring to be,” he wrote.

Morgan received a full Twitter dose of criticism from outspoken model Chrissy Teigen.

“@piersmorgan saw your piece on Jennifer Aniston. Why do you ALWAYS take the road of being the piece of s–t a–hole?” wrote Teigen. “Particularly with women and people of colors. tell me it’s just for click?? Please tell me you aren’t TRULY this vile.”
