Donald Trump Names Reince Priebus White House Chief of Staff

President-elect Donald Trump has appointed two Republican figures to top posts in some of the first moves of forming his administration.

He’s named Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus his White House chief of staff, and conservative media executive Steve Bannon his senior counselor, his transition team announced in a statement on Sunday.

“I am thrilled to have my very successful team continue with me in leading our country,” Trump said in the statement. “Steve and Reince are highly qualified leaders who worked well together on our campaign and led us to a historic victory. Now I will have them both with me in the White House as we work to make America great again.”

The appointment of Priebus may signal an effort on Trump’s part to work with Capitol Hill in fulfilling his agenda. Priebus, though he lacks experience in governing, has spent years in Washington, and has close ties to prominent members of the GOP, including House Speaker Paul Ryan of Wisconsin and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky.

Bannon, who was often criticized for amplifying some of Trump’s most controversial comments about Muslims and other minorities during his campaign, is best known for running conservative news website Breitbart. He took leave from the website to become the CEO of Trump’s campaign during the general election.
