Fox Sets Summer Premiere Dates for ‘Wayward Pines,’ Others

Fox has set its summer premiere dates for a slate that includes the global premiere of M. Night Shyamalan’s event series “Wayward Pines” and the return of “Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?” while also announcing spring finale dates for current series.

As previously announced, “Wayward Pines” kicks off Fox’s summer on May 14, the final Thursday of the television season, as the psychological thriller opens globally in more than 125 countries simultaneously. The network is working alongside Fox International Channels for what it says will be the world’s largest day-and-date launch ever for a scripted series.

The series stars Matt Dillon as a Secret Service agent whose investigation into the disappearance of two federal agents only turns up more questions.

“MasterChef” cooks up its sixth season on Wed., May 20, with a two-hour premiere, and will begin airing in its regular 8-9 p.m. timeslot one week later. This season, chefs Gordon Ramsay and Graham Elliot welcome judge Christina Tosi, the renowned pastry chef, owner and founder of New York City’s Milk Bar.

“Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader,” exec produced by Mark Burnett and featuring returning host Jeff Foxworthy, makes its return Tuesday, May 26, at 8 o’clock. Fox is promising new twists and fun elements for a gameshow that last aired on the network in 2009 before heading into syndication.

“So You Think You Can Dance” enters its 12th season on a new night and with a new twist, as the series showcases America’s most talented dancers from the stage and the street beginning with the audition rounds on Monday, June 1. Paula Abdul and Jason Derulo join the show as judges alongside Nigel Lythgoe, with Cat Deeley back as host.

New quiz show “Boom,” from Keshet DCP and hosted by comedian Tom Papa, bows Thursday, June 25, at 8. It challenges teams of three players to defuse a series of ticking slime-bombs by dramatically cutting the wires relating to the correct answers and leaving the wrong answers untouched.

Key finale dates for current shows include “Backstrom” on April 30; “Gotham” on May 4; “New Girl” and “Weird Loners” (which bows on March 31) on May 5; “American Idol” on May 12 (9-10 p.m.) and 13 (8-10 p.m.); “The Simpsons,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” and “Family Guy” on May 17; “The Following” on May 18; “Bones” on June 4; and “Hell’s Kitchen” on June 9.

Additional finale dates, summer premiere dates and schedule information are to be announced.
