Fox Sets Fall Premiere Dates, Including Two-Hour ‘Scream Queens’ Opener

Fox will use its telecast of the Primetime Emmy Awards to help kick off the network’s fall schedule, which will see all three of its new hourlongs — as well as the sophomore-season premiere of megahit “Empire” — roll out during premiere week.

The Andy Samberg-hosted “67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards” telecast on Sunday, Sept. 20, will be followed the next night by the second-season premiere of “Gotham” and the series opener of “Minority Report.”

The comedy-mystery-horror series “Scream Queens” (pictured) follows on Sept. 22 with a two-hour premiere, setting up a brutal opening hour on the first Tuesday of the season. “Scream Queens” will go up against ABC’s much-anticipated “The Muppets” premiere as well as the Tuesday debut of television’s No. 1 reality show (“The Voice”) and the season premiere of TV’s most popular drama (“NCIS”).

The two-hour “Scream Queens” launch enables the network to premiere its new Tuesday comedies — John Stamos-fronted “Grandfathered” and the Rob Lowe-led “Grinder” — a week after the big premieres on the other networks. Staring Sept. 29, the half-hours will lead into “Scream Queens” at 9.

As previously revealed, “Empire” will premiere on Sept. 23, the first Wednesday of the television season. It will be preceded by the series premiere of medical procedural drama “Rosewood.”

Fox is holding the premieres of its Thursday dramas “Bones” and “Sleepy Hollow” for the second week of the television season (Oct. 1), meaning they won’t have to open against the 8-10 p.m. drama premieres on Sept. 24 on both ABC (“Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal”) and NBC (“Heroes Reborn” and “The Blacklist”).

Sunday’s mix of returning animated and live-action comedies returns Sept. 27, while the Friday unscripted pairing of “MasterChef Junior” and “World’s Funniest” will be held until Nov. 6. Last year, Fox aired mostly repeats on Friday in the fall.
