Vanessa Williams Joins ‘The Good Wife’ Season 7

Vanessa Williams has been cast in Season 7 of “The Good Wife,” CBS announced Monday. The “Ugly Betty” alum will have a recurring role, starting midway through the season in November.

Williams will play an extremely successful, self-made businesswoman Courtney Boalt who is potentially interested in backing Peter Florrick’s (Chris Noth) campaign for president. She also sparks a mutual attraction with Eli Gold (Alan Cumming).

“There are very few names you can put side-by-side that make you laugh,” said “Good Wife” creators Robert and Michelle King. “Alan Cumming and Vanessa Williams are at the top of that list. We couldn’t be more excited.”

Season 7 will also welcome new series regular Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Extant,” “Grey’s Anatomy”), plus guest player Margo Martindale. Morgan will play an experienced and calm investigator named Alex whom Alicia (Julianna Margulies) hires. Martindale will recur as Willa Eastman, a campaign operative responsible for past successes by underdog presidential candidates in Iowa, who will also have run-ins with Eli.

Earlier this month, Williams — who won Miss America in 1984, becoming the first black woman to win the title, though was later forced to resign — served as the head judge for the annual competition.

The Good Wife” returns to CBS on Oct. 4.
