MTV2 Orders Tyga, Charlamagne Series, ‘Celebrity Deathmatch’ Pilot

MTV2 has given series orders to projects revolving around rapper Tyga and comedian Charlamagne. The cabler also hopes to revive “Celebrity Deathmatch.”

MTV2 has ordered a new pilot for “Deathmatch,” the animated series that bowed on MTV in 1998. The series features contemporary and historical figures engaging in fantasy fights. Creator Eric Fogel is “re-imagining” the concept for the Twitter era, MTV2 promises.

“Kingin’ with Tyga” follows the rap star and his sizable entourage as they engage live the high life and engage in stunts along the way. The half-hour series from 3 Ball Entertainment has a six-episode order. Tyga, Marcus Fox, Brant Pinvidic, J.D. Roth, Todd Nelson and Adam Kaloustian are exec producers.

“Uncommon Sense with Charlamagne tha God” is described as a weekly half-hour comedy talk show featuring a panel of comedians riffing on “the loudest social media topics of the week.” Charlamagne is a regular on MTV2’s air from his appearances on “Guy Code” and as host of “Charlamagne and Friends.” Brian Saracusa is exec producer. “Uncommon Sense” has an eight-episode order.

MTV2 is hoping to maintain the momentum it has this year. with the first quarter ranking as the highest-rated quarter in the spinoff channel’s 20-year history. “Guy Code” and “Nick Cannon Presents: Wild ‘N Out” drove the first-quarter gains.
