Turner Broadcasting has tapped Lauren Hurvitz to lead corporate communications and marketing for the cable programming group that is in the midst of a makeover under the direction of chairman-CEO John Martin.

Hurvitz comes to Turner from Starcom Mediavest, where she served as global chief communications and brand marketing officer since 2012. Before that, she held top communications posts at AOL and at MTV Networks.

As Turner’s exec VP and chief communications and corporate marketing officer, Hurvitz will oversee all media and publicity efforts for the Time Warner unit that is home to cablers TNT, TBS, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, TCM, TruTV and various digital and media assets. She reports to Martin.

“Lauren is a skilled global communications and marketing pro who has been on the front lines of the evolution of media throughout her career. She brings a deep experience that encompasses advertising, technology, digital, cable brands, and more,” Martin said. “Her appointment further strengthens the leadership team at Turner as we build on the momentum across our portfolio of brands and invest in our company’s next generation of growth and development.”

Hurvitz succeeds Jeff Matteson as Turner’s top PR exec. Matteson left Turner earlier this year after more than 20 years with the company.
