The second installment of “True Detective” will premiere this summer on June 21 with eight episodes, HBO announced on Thursday.

Season two stars Vince Vaughn, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch, as a career criminal and three law-enforcement officers, respectively, who are brought together by a bizarre murder.

Here is the first look at “True Detective’s” season- cast with details on the new characters:

Colin Farrell as Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, L.A. County

Vince Vaughn as Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (played by Kelly Reilly) struggles with his choices and her own

Rachel McAdams as Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves

Taylor Kitsch as Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene, which launches an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions.
