‘Deadliest Catch’ Star Tony Lara Dies at 50

Tony Lara, star of Discovery Channel’s “Deadliest Catch,” died early Saturday morning in Sturgis, S.D., after attending the city’s infamous motorcycle rally. He was 50.

Lara died at a private residence in Sturgis, according to the Associated Press. The veteran crab catcher appeared as a commercial fishing ship captain on six episodes of the hit Alaska-set Discovery show.

Lara joined the cast several years ago following the death of Phil Harris in 2010. Like Harris, Lara was captain of the ship Cornelia Marie.

The cause of death is pending an autopsy report.
