“The X-Files” has always told us that the truth is out there, but in the latest promo for the sci-fi show’s upcoming revival, even the show’s most staunch conspiracy theorist, Special Agent Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) is starting to question his beliefs.
“What if our work, the X-Files, everything we’ve been led to believe in, is a lie?” Mulder asks in the new 30-second trailer that debuted during “Gotham” on Monday night.
The footage sees Mulder and his partner, Special Agent Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) back in action and flashing their badges just like old times, intercut with all manner of spooky occurrences and a cameo from Mitch Pileggi’s Walter Skinner.
Fox also released a new poster for the six-episode event series featuring the show’s enduring antagonist, The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis), on Monday.
The first episode of the revival — which revolves around the case of a possible alien abductee — had its North American premiere at New York Comic-Con earlier this month, with Duchovny, Pileggi and creator Chris Carter in attendance.
“It’s a perfect time to be telling ‘X-Files,’ stories,” Carter said. “That’s why I was excited about doing it. We knew we needed to make a statement and be bold.”
Carter also revealed that the new season will consist of four standalone episodes and two that further the show’s mythology.
“The X-Files” season 10 premieres Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, following the NFC Championship Game, before settling into its regular 8 p.m. timeslot the following day,
Monday, Jan. 25.
