The four-hour limited series event from Downey and Mark Burnett, based on Alice Hoffman’s book of the same name, stars “NCIS’s” Cote de Pablo, Rachel Brosnahan, Kathryn Prescott, Diego Boneta and Sam Neill.
Downey said after the huge success of her “Bible” miniseries on History (which drew more than 100 million views), she knew viewers would be “hungry” for “Dovekeepers,” which she decided to produce because she is such a big fan of the novel.
“At its heart, ‘Dovekeepers’ is a love story…there is tragedy, of course, but at its heartbeat, there is beauty and hope,” Downey said on the TCA panel, adding that the dark story of Masada, which was filmed in Malta, is “profoundly moving.”
The net is hoping that de Pablo’s “noisy” fanbase, as described by Downey, will tune into the miniseries, which “NCIS” will lead into on Tuesday, March 31. Part two premieres Wednesday, April 1, on CBS.
