Showtime’s Emmy-nominated drama “Homeland” will kick off its fifth season on Oct. 4, the network announced Thursday, pairing it again on Sundays with “The Affair.”

“Homeland,” up for five Emmys including best drama, will premiere at 9 p.m. Oct. 4, followed by the second-season launch of “The Affair” at 10. That same night will also feature the season premiere of CBS’ “The Good Wife,” airing in the same 9 o’clock hour as “Homeland.” AMC’s “The Walking Dead” makes the night even tougher when it returns the following week.

“Homeland’s” fifth season will pick up two years after Carrie Mathison’s ill-fated tenure as Islamabad station chief. She finds herself in a self-imposed exile in Berlin, estranged from the CIA and working as the head of security for a German philanthropist. It is in production in Berlin, and is the first American TV series to shoot entirely in Germany.
