Sarah Silverman is back for more “Sex.”

The actress-comedian is returning to the Showtime period drama “Masters of Sex” to reprise her season-two role as Helen, the once-jilted lover of Annaleigh Ashford’s Betty. The character will have a multiepisode arc in season three, which finds the duo reconnected and trying to have a baby — something that proves quite a challenge for a lesbian couple in 1966. This situation arises as Betty’s colleagues, William Masters (Michael Sheen) and Virginia Johnson (Lizzy Caplan), are dealing with the glare of the national spotlight after their sex study is finally unveiled.

Silverman received an Emmy last year for writing her variety special “Sarah Silverman: We Are Miracles.” She just finished production on her HBO comedy pilot, which she stars in and executive produce.

“Masters of Sex” was developed for television by Michelle Ashford. She serves as an executive producer along with Sarah Timberman, Carl Beverly, Amy Lippman, Dave Flebotte and Judith Verno. Sheen, Tammy Rosen and Thomas Maier serve as producers. The series is produced by Sony Pictures Television. Season three premieres July 12 at 10 p.m. on Showtime.
