Sarah Michelle Gellar, best known for kicking butt as the title character in “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” will join the voice cast of Disney XD’s “Star Wars Rebels” in a recurring role for season two, Disney announced Tuesday.

“Star Wars Rebels” takes place between episodes III and IV of the blockbuster space saga, and follows the ragtag crew of the starship Ghost as they attempt to evade the growing Empire and its agents. In season two, the series will feature recurring appearances by fan-favorite characters including Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano. The show reached more than 49 million viewers in its first season.

“We’re thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two,” said executive producer and supervising director Dave Filoni. “She is a true ‘Star Wars Rebels’ fan, and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions.” Details on Gellar’s role have yet to be announced.

Gellar joins a cast that includes her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., Vanessa Marshall, Steve Blum, Tiya Sircar, Taylor Gray and “Selma” star David Oyelowo.
