Ratings: ‘Big Brother’ Dominates, ‘Astronaut Wives Club’ Up Thursday

Big Brother” was on the rise Thursday, teaming with repeats of “The Big Bang Theory” and “Mom” to keep CBS comfortably atop the night’s demo leaderboard.

According to preliminary national estimates from Nielsen, “Big Brother” averaged a 2.0 rating/8 share in adults 18-49 and 6.3 million viewers overall in the 9 o’clock hour, up a tick from last week and doubling up runner-up “Dateline” on NBC in 18-49. As the youngest-skewing broadcast show in its time period, “Brother” may have benefited from the departure of Fox drama “Wayward Pines,” which ended last week. CBS also was on top in the night’s opening hour with “The Big Bang Theory” (1.5/7 in 18-49, 7.2 million viewers overall) and “Mom” (1.1/5 in 18-49, 5.4 million viewers), and finished a close to NBC’s “Dateline” at 10 p.m. with “Under the Dome” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 4.6 million viewers overall), which was up slightly from last week (1.03 vs. 1.00) for a three-week high.

Elsewhere, ABC’s “The Astronaut Wives Club” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall) bounced back from its low of last week, rising 25% in 18-49 (0.79 vs. 0.63) and placing second for its 8 o’clock hour to the CBS comedy repeats. It was followed by “Mistresses” (0.7/3 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall), which was even with last week, and “Rookie Blue” (0.7/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall), which came down a tenth from its season high of last week.

NBC, which ditched dramas “Aquarius” and “Hannibal” a few weeks ago, continues to do better from 9 to 11 p.m. with “Dateline Mystery” (1.0/4 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall). The newsmagazine was up a smidge from last week (1.04 vs. 0.98) for the network’s top demo performance in the time period since May 28. Kicking off the night, “Food Fighters” (0.7/3 in 18-49, 3.6 million viewers overall) was down 5% week to week (0.75 vs. 0.79) but stayed ahead of Fox’s competing alternative series “Boom” (0.6/3 in 18-49, 1.9 million viewers overall).

At CW, “Beauty and the Beast” (0.2/1 in 18-49, 1.0 million viewers overall) was even with last week (0.23). It was followed by British import comedy “Dates” at both 9 (0.1/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall) and 9:30 (0.2/1 in 18-49, 0.6 million viewers overall). The 0.20 rating at 9:30 edged out its previous high (0.19) set with its July 9 premiere.

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: CBS, 1.4/6; NBC, 0.9/4; Univision, 0.8/3; ABC and Telemundo, 0.7/3; Fox, 0.5/2; CW, 0.2/1.

In total viewers: CBS, 5.7 million; NBC, 4.9 million; ABC, 3.6 million; Univision, 2.3 million; Fox, 2.1 million; Telemundo, 1.7 million; CW, 0.8 million.
