The Bachelorette” capped a strong season Monday with a finale night that came in about 15% higher than last year and helped ABC cruise to victory in key demos. Also of note was series highs by CW’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us,” which drew the network’s largest Monday audience in nearly six years.

In Nielsen’s “live plus same-day” estimates, the two-hour season ender of “The Bachelorette” averaged a season-high 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 8.1 million viewers overall, up about 33% from last week’s “The Men Tell All” special (1.8) and 20% higher than the show’s season average in the demo (2.0). The post-show “After the Final Rose” delivered similar numbers in the 10 o’clock hour (2.4/8 in 18-49, 7.9 million viewers overall).

Overall, the night averaged a 2.4 rating in 18-49, 14% higher than last year’s 2.1 and the best for a summer Monday on ABC since the 2013 “Bachelorette” finale in August of that year.

Elsewhere, NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” held up well (1.9/7 in 18-49, 6.3 million viewers overall), down a bit from last week’s season high but about average despite the tough “Bachelorette” competition. It was the No. 2 series of the night in 18-49 and No. 1 among all programs in men 18-49 (1.9/7). And “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” was up, posting its best scores in three airings this summer (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall).

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” fell to a season low (0.8/3 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall), but CW’s “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” hit series highs (0.7/3 in 18-49, 2.3 million viewers overall) pending updates that could include local pre-emptions. If it stands in the nationals, this would be CW’s top demo score in Monday’s leadoff hour since “The Originals” in February, and its largest overall audience there since “One Tree Hill” in December 2009.

In total viewers: ABC, 8.0 million; NBC, 5.5 million; CBS, 4.9 million; Fox, 2.8 million; Univision, 1.9 million; CW and Telemundo, 1.8 million.
