‘Cougar Town’ Alum Josh Hopkins Joins ABC Thriller ‘Quantico’

Josh Hopkins is moving from the cul-de-sac to the FBI base.

The “Cougar Town” alum has joined ABC’s drama “Quantico,” as a series regular, Variety has learned.

Hopkins will play Special Agent Liam O’Conner, who’s described as sexy, good looking and charming. He is a staff counselor at the Quantico FBI base, working with the agent trainees (the emsembler is top-lined by Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra). Now her subordinate, Liam is Miranda’s (Aunjanue Ellis) former partner and while the two care for each other, they often butt heads. Though he’s good at his job, his bouts of depression, stemming from a mistake in his past, get in the way.

The series revolves around a diverse group of recruits as they arrive at the FBI Quantico Base for training, and though it seems impossible, one of them is suspected of masterminding the biggest attack on New York City since 9/11.

At the time of “Cougar Town’s” series finale, Hopkins was cast as a lead in NBC’s untitled Monica Potter project. Since, the project has been put back into development, freeing up the actor’s schedule.

“Quantico” also recently cast recurring player Anabelle Acosta (“Ballers”) who will play Nathalie Vasquez, a former Texan cop who’s driven, kick-ass, fiercely competitive and more interested in always coming out on top than being a team player.

Hailing from ABC Studios with exec producers Joshua Safran, Mark Gordon, Nicholas Pepper, Jake Coburn and Robert Sertner, “Quantico” debuts Sept. 27.
