‘Penny Dreadful’ Season 3 First Look: Patti LuPone Comforts Eva Green

Showtime has offered a taste of the third season of its Victorian-era thriller “Penny Dreadful.”

In a photo released Thursday, Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives is shown struggling with the evil forces within her through the help of Patti LuPone’s American therapist, Dr. Seward. A new character this season, Seward is attempting to treat Vanessa with an unconventional approach.

LuPone is returning to “Penny Dreadful” after guest-starring last season as Joan Clayton (aka the Cut-Wife). The Broadway legend will be a regular for the nine-episode third season.

The new season is also adding Shazad Latif as an interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Dr. Henry Jekyll and Wes Studi as Kaetenay, a Native American with a connection to Josh Hartnett’s Ethan.

“Penny Dreadful” Season 3 premieres in 2016 on Showtime.
