Monday Ratings: ABC’s ‘Bachelor in Paradise’ Hits Series Highs

ABC’s “Bachelor in Paradise” continues to pick up ratings steam, on Monday hitting another summer high and standing as the night’s top series in key demos.

According to preliminary “live plus same-day” estimates from Nielsen, “Bachelor in Paradise” (1.8/6 in 18-49, 5.5 million viewers overall) shot up 20% (0.3) from last week for its highest rating in the show’s two seasons to date. It was followed by discussion show “After Paradise” (1.1/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall), which also hit a high and moved up to second place among the Big Four for its 9 o’clock hour. Drama “Whispers” held steady at 10 p.m. (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.7 million viewers overall) one week from its finale.

ABC tied with NBC for the night’s lead among young adults, though NBC’s average may come down in the nationals due to a preemption for an NFL preseason game in Cincinnati.

The Peacock stayed on top (at least in the prelims) despite airing a recap special of “American Ninja Warrior” (1.4/5 in 18-49, 5.2 million viewers overall); it placed second to “Bachelor in Paradise” in its opening hour, before moving to the broadcast lead in demos at 9. Closing out the night, “Running Wild with Bear Grylls” hit a season low (1.0/3 in 18-49, 3.1 million viewers overall), as it was impacted by a much lower lead-in this week (1.4 vs. 2.4 last week).

Monday continues to be CW’s strongest night of the summer, with “Penn & Teller: Fool Us” (0.6/2 in 18-49, 2.2 million viewers overall) and “Whose Line Is It Anyway” (0.5/2 in 18-49, 1.9 million viewers overall) matching their summer highs of last week and “Significant Mother” (0.3/1 in 18-49, 1.3 million viewers overall) up a bit from last week. The net’s preliminary numbers include preemption in New York, so its numbers could be revised in the nationals.

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” held steady (0.9/3 in 18-49, 3.0 million viewers overall), and CBS again aired all repeats: “2 Broke Girls” (0.9/4 in 18-49, 4.4 million viewers overall), “The Odd Couple” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 4.0 million viewers overall), “Scorpion” (0.8/2 in 18-49, 4.5 million viewers overall) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (0.8/3 in 18-49, 5.3 million viewers overall).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC and NBC, 1.2/4; Fox, 0.9/3; CBS and Univision, 0.8/3; Telemundo, 0.7/2; CW, 0.5/2.

In total viewers: CBS, 4.7 million; NBC, 4.5 million; ABC, 4.1 million; Fox, 3.0 million; Univision, 2.2 million; CW, 1.9 million; Telemundo, 1.5 million.
