TV News Roundup: Miss Colombia to Appear on Pitbull’s New Year’s Eve & More

Miss Colombia, the Miss Universe runner-up, will appear on Pitbull’s New Year’s Eve special on Fox. Plus, “iZombie” has set up a “Veronica Mars” reunion with Kristen Bell in this week’s TV news roundup . . .

New Year’s Specials:

Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutiérrez — the runner-up at Miss Universe who was incorrectly named the winner by host Steve Harvey at the recent pageant — is making a quick comeback. Gutiérrez will appear as a “special guest” on “Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution,” which airs live Thursday, Dec. 31 at 8 p.m. on Fox.

The network, which also broadcast the Miss Universe pageant, did not detail what Gutiérrez’s appearance would entail. She joins Puff Daddy and the Family, “Empire’s” Taraji P. Henson, Jussie Smollett, Yazz and Timbaland, Christina Milian, Kal Penn, Jordin Sparks, Yandel, Shawn Mendes, Camila Cabello, Prince Royce, Austin Mahone, R. City, Pia Mia and Earth, Wind & Fire.

Casting News:

Kristen Bell will guest star on iZombie,” reuniting with the “Veronica Mars” creator Rob Thomas, who also co-created and exec produces the CW zombie rom-com.

Bell will lend her voice to the series on episode No. 11, slated for Jan. 26, in the current second season, which is titled “Fifty Shades of Grey Matter,” though details on her role have not been disclosed. According to EW, who first reported Bell’s voiceover guest gig, things get interesting for Liv (Rose McIver) in the episode, after she consumes the brain of a young librarian who was poisoned and who also happened to secretly be an erotic fiction writer.

Aside from narrating “Veronica Mars,” Bell also voiced the titular “Gossip Girl” character, in addition to Anna in Disney’s “Frozen.”

Fun fact: earlier this year at SXSW, Thomas revealed that Bell was the first actress to audition for “Mars,” while McIver was the last to audition for “iZombie.”

Superhero Specials:

The CW will air two DC Comics specials, “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow: Their Time Is Now” (9 p.m.) and “DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League” (9:30 p.m.), which will both premiere on Jan. 19, following a new episode of “The Flash.” During the latter broadcast, the world premiere of the new “Suicide Squad” trailer will debut.

The “Legends of Tomorrow” special will give an in-depth look at the origin stories of the heroes and villains — Vandal Savage, Rip Hunter, Hawkman, Hawkgirl, White Canary, The Atom, Firestorm, Captain Cold and Heat Wave — of the CW’s hotly anticipated new series, which bows Jan. 21. The half-hour program will also feature clips from the action series and interviews with the show’s exec producers.

The “Justice League” special, hosted by Kevin Smith, will go behind the scenes of the new DC Films movies, giving glimpses of never-before-seen footage from “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which hits theaters in March, and the upcoming Wonder Woman film. Interviews with “Batman v Superman” stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot and directors Zack Snyder and Patty Jenkins will be featured, and DC Entertainment’s Geoff Johns will appear.
