‘Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD’ Spinoff in Early Development

Ready for even more Marvel?

Marvel Entertainment is developing a spinoff series for ABC’s “Agents of SHIELD,” Variety has confirmed.

The project is in the very early stages of development and does not have a proposed premiere date yet, nor plans for specific characters to lead the potential show, Variety has learned. “SHIELD’s” exec producer Jeffrey Bell and writer Paul Zbyszewski are developing the series.

First reported by Entertainment Weekly, the new show would not be introduced as a planted spinoff during “Agents of SHIELD,” but upcoming storylines in the current series will be utilized to set up the spinoff, if it ends up being greenlit, so the theme should be clear by the end of the “Agents” season.

“Agents of SHIELD,” currently in its second season, has not yet been renewed by ABC.

Marvel has two properties on ABC this season: “SHIELD” and “Agent Carter,” which premiered this January.

As for other superhero spinoffs, DC Comics is reportedly developing an “Arrow” and “Flash” spinoff over at The CW, which is being eyed for the 2016-17 TV season.

Marvel and ABC declined to comment on the “SHIELD” spinoff.

    Review: 'O.G.' on HBO

Jeffrey Wright, the most compelling reason to watch HBO’s new film “O.G.,” is among television’s best actors at switching between codes or manners of being. On “Westworld,” his timeline-toggling android swaps personae so delicately that his performance gains in resonance when recalled in retrospect. (Perhaps that’s why Wright has been so oddly underrated through the [...]
