After much shopping around, Hallmark Channel has acquired the rights to Tim Allen’s ABC comedy “Last Man Standing.”

Starting in January, the series will air as part of Hallmark’s programming lineup that also includes Allen’s long-running ABC sitcom “Home Improvement.” The comedy follows Allen’s Mike Baxter, an outdoor sporting goods exec whose conservative ideas are constantly challenged by his wife and daughters.

“As our classic sitcom schedule continues to grow and bring in a solid ratings performance, ‘Last Man Standing’ fits right into the model of family friendly entertainment that is at the core of our programming values,” says Darren Melameth, Senior Vice President, Program Planning & Acquisitions, Crown Media Family Networks. “Among the cluttered landscape of more risqué television sitcoms, ‘Last Man Standing,’ approaches its portrayal of family life with a humor and attitude that is just right for the Hallmark Channel brand, creating the perfect comedy block starting next year.”

ABC recently renewed “Last Man Standing” for a fifth season.
