Boehner announced Friday morning that he would resign from his post on Oct. 30, a move that comes amid great turmoil among the House’s GOP leadership.
Boehner had first announced plans for a press conference on Friday but then reporters were told he would be leaving the Capitol without addressing them. He eventually reconsidered and a conference was scheduled for midday Friday.
The news also comes a day after Boehner became emotional during Pope Francis’ address to Congress on Thursday, a visit that he helped arrange. Cameras caught him weeping as the pontiff spoke.
