Idris Elba to Exec Produce ‘The Crusaders’ Series for Fox

Fox is developing drama series “The Crusaders” with Idris Elba attached to exec produce, Variety has learned.

Thomas Ikimi will pen the project, in addition to also serving as an exec producer with the “Luther” star. The script order marks a reunion for the scribe and Elba, who starred in Ikimi’s 2010 flick “Legacy.”

The Crusaders” follows an extended family of second-generation Africans living in the U.S. who specialize in locating and returning valuable objects stolen from Africa during colonial occupation.

The project hails from Legendary Television, Di Bonaventura Television, Elba’s Green Door Pictures banner and Ikimi’s T&T Studios. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott of Di Bonaventura will also exec produce.

“Crusaders” strengthens Elba’s relationship with Fox, as the network has another “Luther” series in the works. The remake, based on the BBC drama, landed a pilot order last cycle, but was put on hold, as casting is still in progress. Elba is on board is an exec producer for that project, as well. He is repped by WME and The Artists Partnership in the UK.

Ikimi, whose short film “Nostradamus” recently premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, is repped by CAA, The Artists Partnership in the U.K., attorneys Stuart Rosenthal and Patrick Ragen at Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal LaViolette Feldman Schenkman & Goodman, LLP.

Di Bonaventura Television is represented by CAA.
