“Frozen’s” Idina Menzel could be making a return to television in her own series with a starring role in “Happy Time,” a comedy in development from Ellen DeGeneres’ A Very Good Production and Warner Bros. TV, Variety has confirmed.
The single-camera comedy follows a woman (Menzel) in the public eye who decides she’s ready to stop pretending that she’s so happy all the time.
The project, first reported by Deadline, won’t be taken to networks until the next development cycle, pitched for the 2016-17 TV season.
Randi Barnes (“Girl Meets World”) will pen the script and exec produce with DeGeneres and Jeff Kleeman (“One Big Happy”).
Last seen on the smallscreen with a recurring role on “Glee,” Menzel is currently starring on Broadway in “If/Then,” set to close in March, and will be singing the national anthem at Super Bowl XLIX.
