History’s “Alone,” E!’s “I Am Cait,” Discovery’s “Naked and Afraid” and Spike TV’s “Lip Sync Battle” are among the shows landing nominations for NATPE’s second annual Reality Breakthrough Awards, held as part of the org’s Jan. 19-21 conference in Miami.
The kudos are part of a push by the National Association of Television Program Executives to embrace the growing world of unscripted programming at the conference. That includes assembling a two-day market track dubbed NATPE Reality that aims to bring global buyers, producers and sellers together to talk shop and cut deals on formats and rights pacts.
Rod Perth, NATPE president-CEO, told reporters Wednesday that the conference its expanding its meeting and programming space to include the Eden Roc hotel, which is next door to its home base at the Fontainebleau Hotel. Perth said demand for attendance and exhibition space is strong, particularly from the international side, with 29 new exhibitors signing on.
Among the speakers set for the conference are showrunners Graham Yost, John Eisendrath, Howard Gordon, Michelle Ashford, Ilene Chaiken, Sarah Treem, Dan Harmon, Mitch Hurwitz and Marc Cherry.
Howie Mandel will return as host of the Reality Breakthrough Awards ceremony, set for Jan. 19.
