Last season ended with Rebecca’s (Katie Findlay) lifeless body under the stairs, causing the looming cliffhanger of the summer: Who Killed Rebecca? The murderer will be revealed within “42 minutes,” Davis teases, confirming that viewers will know who killed Rebecca in the Season 2 premiere episode.
Though the Emmy history-maker stays mum in Variety‘s interview (watch above), she does promise that the new episodes will provide more insight into many characters in Annalise’s world — Bonnie (Liza Weil), Frank (Charlie Weber), Laurel (Karla Souza) — and Prof. Keating herself.
“I think that Annalise will get more in touch with her feelings and I think that you will see parts of her past revealed that are both shocking and touching, heartbreaking, surprising,” Davis says.
At the end of Season 1, when Lila’s killer was revealed to be Frank and Rebecca was found dead, both Davis and Weber spoke to Variety, prepping for what’s next to come.
“What’s so interesting is if you go back and watch that last hour again, each one of us had an opportunity to do it,” Weber said of the all the characters being suspects for Rebecca’s death. “It could have been Annalise, it could have been me. When everyone went upstairs, Annalise had time alone with her before she said she was gone, knowing fully well she was gone. Wes had his time. Anyone could have snuck off and done that at some point in time throughout that day.”
Davis added, “I do not know who killed Rebecca, and I’m very curious myself. I thought about it because I thought it’s got to be someone in this room — it was a very contained situation. Everyone’s always pointing their finger at Bonnie. And then I went from Bonnie to Laurel. She’s just too pulled together so what’s the deal with Laurel? I’ve gone back and forth.”
Another question left unanswered before Rebecca was killed is who was she texting and what does “Eggs 911” mean?
“I believe she is going to be coming back in flashbacks so that those questions are answered,” Davis said, after the finale. “So even though she is dead, Katie Findlay is not done in the mystery.”
The “How To Get Away With Murder” season premiere airs at 10/9c on ABC. To see Davis’ full interview, in which she also discusses her Emmy nomination, plus opportunities for women and actors of color, watch above.
