HBO has renewed comedy “Getting On” for a third and final season. Production on the show’s concluding six episodes will begin this year.

“Getting On” follows the staff in the women’s geriatric long-term-care ward of a dysfunctional Long Beach, Calif., hospital as they battle the medical bureaucracy. It stars Laurie Metcalf, Alex Borstein, Niecy Nash and Mel Rodriguez. The series is based on the U.K. show of the same name, created by Vicki Pepperdine, Joanna Scanlan and Jo Brand.

Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer created the U.S. adaptation, write every episode and exec produce along with Pepperdine, Scanlan, Brand, Geoff Atkinson, Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner.

The dark workplace comedy averages 1.6 million viewers per episode. A premiere date for the third season of “Getting On” has yet to be announced.
