FYI has ordered six one-hour episodes of “He Shed, She Shed,” the cabler announced Tuesday. The new original home series will explore the growing trend and “small space craze” of transforming backyard sheds into real outdoor living spaces.

Each episode will follow two homeowners, friends or neighbors in a male vs. female backyard shed showdown, as they design and build he-shed and she-shed from pub-sheds used as man caves to work spaces to sheds used as female-based sanctuaries, while also showcasing existing sheds and their owners across America.

“FYI was the first network to peek into the alternative living trend of tiny homes, and now we’re extending that look into small spaces with the fanatical world of backyard sheds,” said Gena McCarthy, SVP of programming and development at FYI. “What used to be just a humble garden outbuilding is now fast becoming a way for owners to express creativity and to fulfill a practical space missing from their traditional home space.”

The series is produced by Loud TV and Plum Pictures with exec producers Nick Rigg and Brent Montgomery for Loud TV, and Stuart Cabb for Plum Pictures. FYI’s McCarthy and Toby Faulkner will also serve as exec producers.

Production on “He Shed, She Shed” starts immediately.
