Both Fox series will bow internationally within 24 hours of their debut in the U.S. The global launch strategy is increasingly becoming the norm for high-profile U.S. series as studios seek to capitalize on the value of the cascade of social media activity that accompanies the launch of buzzy shows. Fox has the biggest international platform of all the major with more than 300 channels spread across Latin America, Europe, Asia and Africa.
“Hollywood is waking up to how instrumental it is to harness the collective voices of outspoken international fans, especially for water-cooler shows like ‘Empire’ and ‘Scream Queens,’ ” said Fox International Channels president Hernan Lopez.
The second season of “Empire” opens Sept. 23 on Fox. “Scream Queens” — the horror comedy from the “Glee” trio of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan — bows the following night.
The Fox-branded outlets operated by Fox International Channels reach some 244 million homes in 126 countries and 33 languages.
