E!’s ‘Fashion Police’ on Hiatus Till September

After much tribulation, E! has announced that it is putting “Fashion Police” on hiatus.

“E!’s comedy series ‘Fashion Police’ is going on hiatus and will return in September,” the network said in a statement. “We look forward to taking this opportunity to refresh the show before the next awards season. Our talented co-hosts Giuliana Rancic and Brad Goreski, along with executive producer Melissa Rivers, will continue their roles as we evolve the show into its next chapter for the legions of ‘Fashion Police’ fans around the world.”

The E! stalwart came under scrutiny earlier this month after recent addition Kathy Griffin announced she was leaving the show soon after she joined the cast as a replacement for Joan Rivers, who died in September. Griffin’s departure happened just weeks after co-host Kelly Osbourne also left the show. Osbourne exited after the backlash from Rancic’s comments on February 23 that actress Zendaya’s dreadlocks at the Oscars probably smelled like “patchouli oil” or “weed.” (Rancic later apologized on Twitter).

“When I chose to step into the shoes of my beloved friend Joan Rivers at ‘Fashion Police,’ I was thrilled to continue her legacy as a woman being brash and eccentric on television,” Griffin said in a statement she released via Twitter. ““After seven episodes of ‘Fashion Police,’ I discovered that my style does not fit with the creative direction of the show and now it’s time to move on.”

Griffin later appeared on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM show to say she “probably shouldn’t have taken the gig.”
