‘DuckTales’ Reboot Coming to Disney XD in 2017

’80s kids, get ready to revisit Scrooge McDuck.

A reboot of “DuckTales” is in the works, Disney announced Wednesday. It’s set to launch on Disney XD in 2017.

The original Emmy-winning series aired from 1987-1990 as part of The Disney Afternoon daily cartoon block, and spawned an animated theatrical release in 1990 as well.

The reboot will, like the original, follow McDuck, his grandnephews Huey, Dewey and Louie and Donald Duck as they adventure around the world. Other characters from the original, including Duckworth, Gyro Gearloose, Launchpad McQuack, Flintheart Glomgold, Magica DeSpell and Poe, Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys (Burger Beagle, Bouncer Beagle), Mrs. Beakley and Webbigail Vanderquack, are also set to return.

“DuckTales’ has a special place in Disney’s TV animation history, it drew its inspiration from Disney Legend Carl Barks’ comic books and through its storytelling and artistic showmanship, set an enduring standard for animated entertainment that connects with both kids and adults,” said Marc Buhaj, SVP, programming and general manager, Disney XD, in a statement. “Our new series will bring that same energy and adventurous spirit to a new generation.”
