ABC has ordered the back-nine episodes for “Dr. Ken,” giving Ken Jeong’s Friday night comedy a full-season pickup for its freshman run, Variety has learned.

“Dr. Ken” marks the first new comedy to land a full-season order this fall.

The multi-camera family comedy stars Jeong and draws from his previous career practicing medicine. It’s the top program in Friday’s 8:30 p.m. half-hour slot among adults 18-49, drawing on average 6.6 million viewers and an 1.5/6 in adults 18-49.

Created by Jeong along with Jared Stern and John Fox, it also stars Suzy Nakamura as his wife and Albert Tsai and Krista Marie Yu as his kids. Dave Foley, Jonathan Slavin and Tisha Campbell-Martin also star. Executive producers are Mike Sikowitz, John Davis, Fox and Jeong. Mike O’Connell is co-executive producer. “Dr. Ken” is produced by Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios.

“Dr. Ken” joins a shortlist of other new series that have received full-season pickups this fall, including NBC’s “Blindspot,” Fox’s “Rosewood” and ABC’s Sunday night drama “Quantico.” Fox comedies “Grandfathered” and “Grinder” have received additional script orders, as have CW’s hourlong comedy “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and its returning zombie rom-com, “iZombie.”
