Dominic Purcell Joins CW’s ‘Arrow’-‘Flash’ Spinoff as Heat Wave

The CW’s potential “Arrow” and “The Flash” spinoff has added Dominic Purcell, who will reprise his role as “Flash” villain Heat Wave/Mick Rory in the new superhero show. He’ll appear alongside his “Prison Break” co-star Wentworth Miller, who plays Captain Cold/Leonard Snart on “The Flash” and was previously announced for the spinoff.

The project is currently in development for a possible launch next season, and will also feature Brandon Routh (Ray Palmer/the Atom) and Caity Lotz (Sara Lance/Black Canary) from “Arrow,” and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/one half of Firestorm) from “The Flash,” as well as three mystery DC Comics characters who haven’t been used on either series to date.

Mick Rory is a pyromaniac who finds an outlet for his obsession with fire when he teams up with Leonard Snart and becomes the villain known as Heat Wave. Purcell and Miller will return to “The Flash” for its March 24 episode.

“Arrow” executive producers Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim will produce the spinoff along with Sarah Schechter. Berlanti recently told Variety that the spinoff is planning a “big” DC Comics villain who will also be new to the small screen.

Purcell’s casting was first reported by Variety sister site Deadline.
