Discovery Channel chief Rich Ross has recruited Disney/ABC alum Paul Pastor for a key strategy post that will be based in Los Angeles.

Pastor has been named exec VP of network strategy, revenue and operations. He’ll help plot the over-arching business strategy for Discovery and be a liaison for the channel with Discovery Communications’ broader ad sales, finance, distribution and international units.

“His knowledge of the television industry, combined with his expertise in digital distribution and international markets will benefit the network as a whole – and more importantly, our partners – particularly as the business continues to evolve and offer more options,” Ross said.

Ross took the reins of Discovery this month after a long run at Disney followed by two years as head of Fox’s Shine America. In a shift for Discovery management, Ross is running the channel from Los Angeles.

Pastor joined Disney in 2007 and worked in business development at Disney Channels Worldwide when Ross headed that division. Most recently, he was senior VP of strategy and consumer analytics for Disney/ABC Television Group.
