Disney XD Orders Hidden-Camera Comedy ‘Walk the Prank’ to Series

Disney XD has given a series order to “Walk the Prank,” a single-camera comedy that also makes use of hidden-camera reality pranks.

Created by Adam Small (“MAD TV,” “Jamie Kennedy Experiment”) and Trevor Moore (“Whitest Kids U Know”), the series is shot in a cinema verité style and centers on a team of practical jokesters who create over-the-top pranks for an online hidden-camera show. Small and Moore will be co-showrunning and directing the series. Tommy Gianas directed the pilot, which was called “Epic Offenders.”

“We are confident that Adam and Trevor will give Disney XD one-of-a-kind storytelling and unscripted surprises with the pranks,” said Adam Bonnett, exec VP of original programming of Disney Channels Worldwide, who made the announcement. “We are lucky to be in business with these creators and ready to ‘Walk the Prank’ with them!”

“Walk the Prank” stars newcomers Cody Veith (“Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn”) as Chance, Bryce Gheisar (“Dream Chasers”) as Herman, Jillian Shae Spaeder (“Theatre and Me’s the Bully”) as Bailey, Brandon Severs (“Nicky, Ricky, Dicky & Dawn”) as Dusty and Tobie Windham (“The Wesley’s”) as Will, Dusty’s uncle. It will begin production in January and is scheduled to premiere in 2016.

The concept of the surprise camera series is in a bit of a renaissance. In addition to TruTV’s comedy “Impractical Jokers” — and, to some extent, its “Billy on the Street” — BET has revamped Ashton Kutcher’s MTV series “Punk’d.”

Small is repped by APA, Stephen Marks/Dialed-In Entertainment and Morris Yorn Barnes. Moore is repped by CAA, Generate and Gray Krauss Stratford Sandler Des Rochers. Gianas is repped by APA and New Wave Entertainment.
