‘Chicago Med’ Casts ‘Alias’ Star in Recurring Role

Carl Lumbly has landed a recurring role in NBC’s upcoming medical drama “Chicago Med,” Variety has learned.

The “Alias” and “The Returned” alum will play Bert Goodwin. The spouse of S. Epatha Merkerson’s Sharon, who is the venerable head of hospital at the center of the story, Bert is a once virile and robust man whose sudden physical ailment factors into his relationship with his wife and the hospital where she presides. Lumbly is repped by Kass Management.

Chicago Med,” NBC’s latest spinoff of the Windy City-set procedural “Chicago Fire,” will premiere at 9 p.m. Nov. 17. Other cast members include Oliver Platt, Nick Gehlfuss and Yaya DaCosta.

Hailing from Wolf Films/Universal Television, “Chicago Med” is exec produced by Dick Wolf, Diane Frolov, Andrew Schneider, Matt Olmstead, Michael Brandt, Derek Haas, Danielle Gelber, Peter Jankowski and Arthur Forney.
