Brenda Freeman has been named chief marketing officer for National Geographic Channel and Nat Geo Wild, the latest appointment by chief executive Courteney Monroe, who took the reins of the operation last April.
Freeman had been global head of television marketing for DreamWorks Animation, where she led marketing efforts for the DreamWorks TV business, managing brand marketing and advertising plans for more than 1,000 hours of original content around the world.
The appointment marks the latest in Monroe’s efforts to bolster her senior team since taking over as CEO last April, and follows the September announcement naming Tim Pastore as President of Original Programming & Production. Freeman will essentially take over the duties Monroe had as chief marketing officer before she was named chief executive.
Prior to DreamWorks Animation, Freeman spent six years at Turner Broadcasting, most recently as chief marketing officer for Turner Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media. At Turner, Freeman was responsible for all areas of marketing and network operations, including digital, games, on-air, advertising, consumer and trade communications, special events and affiliate support for the global multiplatform Cartoon Network, Adult Swim and Boomerang brands. She began her television career at MTV Networks, holding various positions in marketing. Additional experience includes ABC Radio Networks, PepsiCo Inc., Pepsi-Cola Company and Mobil Oil Corporation.
