Fox has renewed its durable forensic drama “Bones” for an 11th season. The pickup was expected as the show is a steady player for Fox at a time when the network’s schedule is in flux.

“Bones” will return with stars David Boreanaz and Emily Deschanel on board. There’s been speculation on and off that one or both was ready to move on after a decade with the 20th Century Fox TV show. Jonathan Collier and Michael Peterson are showrunner-exec producers for season 11. Longtime exec producer Stephen Nathan is taking a temporary step back to work on other projects for Fox but expects to rejoin “Bones” later in the season.

Elsewhere on the schedule, Fox has cancelled “The Following” and “Backstrom,” the latter of which hailed from “Bones” creator Hart Hanson. Comedy “The Mindy Project” has also been axed, but could find a home on Hulu.

Ahead of upfronts, the network picked up a number of shows including a new take on “Frankenstein,” dramas based on DC Comics property “Lucifer” and Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report,” and comedies starring Rob Lowe and John Stamos, among others.
