Betty White to Host Discovery Family’s Animal-Themed Pawgust

Hoping to fetch some viewers who are sitting and staying on their couches this summer, Discovery Family has announced plans for Pawgust, a month-long event of animal-themed series, specials and movies.

The programming will be hosted by noted animal lover, Betty White. She and her friends — including, fittingly, a golden retriever named Auggie — will be featured in various promos airing throughout the month of August.

“August traditionally finds the country embroiled in the Dog Days of Summer, so we’re bringing the pawsitively best in programming about pets—and of course, man’s best friend — to help audiences beat the heat,” said Tom Cosgrove, general manager, Discovery Family Channel. “With her devoted advocacy and genuine affection for creatures of all kinds, Betty White is truly the best friend an animal can have — and the perfect person to host Pawgust.”

The programming is anchored by the premiere of “From Wags to Riches With Bill Berloni,” a new show about the trainer famous for molding homeless dogs into Broadway-bound pups. The docu-series focuses on the animal expert, his wife Dorothy, daughter Jenna and menagerie of 41 (and counting!) dogs, ducklings, a donkey and other farm animals. “From Wags to Riches” premieres at 9 p.m. on Aug. 6.

Other events includes a weekday “yappy hour” that will feature airings of “Funniest Pets & People” and other programming. Monday, Saturday and Sunday evenings will be filled with family-friendly, fur-filled movies like “All Dogs Go to Heaven” and “The Jungle Book.”
