Ben Stiller and showrunner Karl Gajdusek have teamed with Media Rights Capital to develop a dramedy series based on the offbeat 2010 novel “Super Sad True Love Story” by Gary Shteyngart.

Novel tells the story of a May-December romance between a bookish man grappling with a tech-obsessed society and a materialistic young Korean-American woman. The project is set in the near future against the backdrop of a domineering American government.

Gajdusek and Shteyngart are co-creating the series and will co-write the script. Stiller is on board to direct multiple episodes.

Project has been in the hopper at MRC for some time. The company is looking to attach key actors before shopping the package, likely to cable and digital buyers.
