ABC News will air a two-hour interview between Diane Sawyer and Bruce Jenner, the Olympian whose quest for sexual identity has been the subject of much speculation in recent weeks. The special’s airdate falls on the second day of TV’s May sweeps period.

ABC News declined to offer much detail on the content of the talks but said in a statement that the interview was “far-ranging and exclusive” and would appear as a special two-hour edition of “20/20” starting at 9 p.m. ET on Friday, April 24.

ABC’s ability to secure the interview may raise eyebrows, as Jenner has long appeared on NBCUniversal’s E! as part of his involvement with the Kardashian family, whose reality show is a staple of that network’s schedule. As such, executives at NBC News may have thought they had an early in on such a conversation.

Jenner, whose recent appearance has spurred discussion the former athlete may have undergone a sex change, had been married to Kris Kardashian, the mother of the reality-TV clan, and has been part of that show for many seasons.
