ABC Family has greenlit a pilot for original drama series “Stay,” the cabler announced Thursday.

The thriller revolves around a recently widowed police detective and his two daughters who are stranded at a foreboding hotel and must unravel its mysteries to escape.

“‘Stay’ is an emotionally-powerful story about a fractured family who comes back together under the most unexpected of circumstances,” said Karey Burke, exec VP of programming and development of ABC Family. “‘Stay’ is a haunting and surprising ride that we are excited to bring to life.”

The one-hour project is written and exec produced by Spenser Cohen, who is new to the scripted arena, and created E!’s unscripted docu-special “Macklemore’s Big Surprise.” Jon Turteltaub (“National Treasure,” “Sorcerer’s Apprentice”) will direct the pilot and also serve as an exec producer, along with Anna Halberg (“Macklemore’s Big Surprise”).

“Stay” joins ABC Family’s original slate of pilots with comedy “Gorgeous Morons” from the team behind “The Office,” and supernatural drama “Beyond” from “Heroes” creator Tim Kring.
