‘The Bureau’ Opens L.A.-Set French TV Showcase Direct To Series

PARIS– Eric Rochant’s spy thriller drama “The Bureau,” the Canal Plus’ original series starring Matthieu Kassovitz ((“Amelie,” “Munich”), is set to open the third edition of Direct To Series, the French TV showcase which will take place Oct.27-28 in Los Angeles.

Produced by Federation Entertainment and TOP (The Oligarchs Productions) as well as Canal Plus, “The Bureau” “Legends” stars Kassovitz as a member of clandestine branch of the French Secret Service who returns to his home base after a six-year mission in Damascus and struggles to let go of his false identity and illicit affair with a Syrian woman.

“The Bureau,” which comprises 10 episodes and was backed by the Ile de France Region, shot in various locations in the Paris Region as well as Luc Besson’s Studios de Paris in La Cité du Cinéma. Pascal Breton’s Federation Entertainment co-produced and reps the series in international markets.

“Our series is the illustration of The Oligarchs Productions strategy of the best of both worlds: adapting an American production process to France,” said Alex Berger, who is producing “The Bureau” for Paris-based The Oligarchs Productions, which he founded with Rochant to deliver European projects with international talents and U.S. production methods.

Federation Entertainment CEO Pascal Breton added,”The series’ extraordinarily compelling storylines, together with the combined talents of our acclaimed showrunner Eric Rochant and series stars Matthieu Kassovitz and Brad Leland has made ‘The Bureau’ a major success for flagship broadcaster Canal Plus.”

The second season of “The Bureau” has gone into production, while the third season is currently development.

The Oligarchs Productions currently has three English-language series in development with U.S writers and directors — one for a U.S. pay TV channel and two others for U.S. and European paybox channels.

Direct To Series is organized by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the United States and by the Ile-de-France Film Commission, in participation with the SACD (French guild for authors, composers, directors), Federation Entertainment and The Oligarchs Productions.

Hosted at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, Direct To Series is aimed to give American producers, screenwriters, showrunners, network buyers, and programmers access to a curated selection of current French TV series.
