Awaited real-life inspired crime miniseries “Story of a Clan” figures among the highlights of Argentine distribution house Telefe International’s line-up at October’s Mipcom TV.
A 11-episode one-hour skein, “Story of a Clan” turns on the Puccio family which, in the early ‘80s, perpetrated a string of abduction/murders against people they knew in a high-profile case that shocked Argentina at the time.
Produced by Sebastian Ortega’s TV outfit Underground Producciones, whose credits include 2007’s global TV hit comedy “Lalola,” miniseries is set to be aired by Argentine’s broadcaster Telefe in September, as one of country’s biggest TV fiction bets of the fall.
“Story of a Clan” stars Cecilia Roth (“I’m So Excited,” “All About My Mother”), Chino Darín (“Death in Buenos Aires”), Ricardo Darin’s son; Alejandro Awada (“Gone Fishing,” “The Aura”) and Nazareno Casero (“Chronicle of an Escape”).
Expectations on the miniseries have increased after the theatrical release on Aug. 13 of Pablo Trapero’s feature film “El Clan,” also based on the family Puccio, that, handled by Twentieth Century Fox, sold 1.13 million tickets in its first nine days, scoring an all-time record in Argentina. Owned by giant telco Telefonica, Telefe is a co-producer of both the miniseries and the feature film.
At Mipcom, Telefe’s distribution arm Telefe International will also be selling drama thriller series “Cannibals,” by Oscar-winner director Juan Jose Campanella (“The Secret in Their Eyes”), a co-production with Fox International Channels Latin America.
Further TV fiction highlights include super-series “The Return of Lucas,” a Telefe co-production with Peruvian network America TV, about a boy abducted from his parents during a beach day that suddenly appears 20 years later – or so it seems – , and telenovela “Lioness,” toplining Pablo Echarri and Nacy Duplaa, produced in partnership with Echarri’s shingle El Arbol.
Telefe Internacional’s wide range of TV programming also encompasses entertainment formats such as reality show “Bartenders,” a co-production with Salta Violeta that sets out to find Argentina’s best bartender.
