She may stand just 3’7”, but “Amazing Ali” Chapman has a personality that’s anything but little. She hosts the Venice Beach Freakshow that’s the subject of AMC’s reality series “Freakshow,” and has an appearance booked on TBS competition “King of the Nerds.” But she has her sights set on larger roles.
When did you decide you wanted to be an entertainer?
After I got a role as a body double for Will Smith’s daughter in “I Am Legend.” Being around the amazing actors, seeing how a big-budget film is made and being a part of that made me decide, ‘Enough with my day job.’
How did you get involved in “Freakshow”?
Todd Ray, the creator of “Freakshow,” found me on Facebook and had me come check out the Venice Beach show. I didn’t really know a lot about (the) sideshow but knew that I could host a show given the opportunity.
Tell me about your role on “King of the Nerds.”
I play this really cool game piece. The costume was amazing! I transformed into something totally wild.
What’s the next thing you’d like to do?
I’d like to play a mainstream character. Little people do (normal) things in real life, so why not do this type of role to where, yeah, that’s a little person, but she’s doing normal things? Why not change it up and see that we could be anything or anybody?
