One of Downtown’s most ambitious restaurants to open in quite a while, Redbird is owned by Neal Fraser, the chef-restaurateur who has long had a following at eateries like Grace and Boxer.
Located in a former rectory adjacent to the Vibiana cathedral-turned-event space, it’s convenient for Staples games and shows at the Nokia or Music Center, but well worth the journey just for dinner. A glass roof showcases the classic architecture, while three different calm and stylish spaces set various moods.
The menu showcases Fraser’s signature mix of imaginative nose-to-tail preparations like head cheese with fig mostarda with elevated comfort food like rack of pork with roasted apples. Seafood is impeccably sourced, with choices like Santa Barbara sea urchin, Ora king salmon and New Caledonian shrimp.
