Tucked away in a Santa Monica Boulevard mini-mall, Hamasaku might seem like a sushi secret, except for all the industry players who drop by in hopes that a special roll will one day bear their name.

Still decorated with pieces from owner Michael Ovitz’s art collection, the secluded spot recently updated with elegant blonde wood tables and chairs in keeping with the modernized Japanese menu.

Pay homage to execs with a Lourd or Mechanic roll, or try the crispy rice and spicy tuna Charlize tacos, but simple nigiri and sashimi really let the uber-fresh seafood shine.

Eat: Salmon crudo, September flower cucumber wrap, steamed pork belly buns

Drink: Flying Pegasus reserve sake, Coedo sweet potato lager (Japanese craft beer)
