R&B diva Jill Scott has nabbed her second No. 1 album with “Woman,” moving 62,000 units to top the U.S. album sales chart for the week ending July 30, according to data from Nielsen Music.
Scott’s latest set follows up the success of 2011’s “The Light of the Sun,” which sold more than twice as many copies as “Woman” when it debuted at No. 1 with 133,000 units moved.
Another high-charting new album comes from Lamb of God. The rock outfit’s “VII: Sturm and Drang” debuted to sales of 50,000 units, good for third place.
The blockbuster soundtrack to Jake Gyllenhaal boxing pic “Southpaw” hit the chart as well, premiering at No. 5. The collection features cuts from Eminem, The Weeknd and 50 Cent, who stars in the pic. The heft of the soundtrack is matched by the movie’s tone, which the Variety review predicts will “land enough visceral blows to catch on with audiences.”
The final newcomer to the chart is the debut album from “X Factor” alum Bea Miller. Miller’s “Not An Apology” bowed at No. 7, moving 33,000 units in its first week.
Future’s “DS2” finished at No. 2 after debuting atop the chart the week before. The rap set moved 52,000 units, down 65%.
Unsinkable Taylor Swift dropped 8% to fourth place, moving 47,000 units of “1989.” In the 40 weeks since the release of “1989,” the pop whopper has not left the top 10, rarely even dropping out of the top five. Ed Sheeran’s “X,” another long-term pop juggernaut, finished at No. 6, having moved 34,000 units.
The last three slots in the top 10 are occupied by male solo acts. Rap rivalry-beleaguered Meek Mill dropped to eighth place, with “Dreams Worth More Than Money” moving 31,000 units. Following Mill is Sam Hunt’s country smash “Montevallo,” which moved 27,000 units, a 7% drop. R&B stylist Tyrese dropped from third place to tenth, with “Black Rose” down 49% with 26,000 units moved.
