Disney is charting a course with “Tangled,” planning to adapt its 2010 animated film into a stage musical that will be performed aboard its Disney Magic cruise ship later this year.

Alan Menken, who created the music for the movie, and lyricist Glenn Slater have created three new songs for the show, according to Disney’s blog, which announced the news.

The movie “Tangled” had a domestic gross of $201 million. Despite many rumors of a sequel, one never materialized.

Disney has been delving into its archives to craft live-action movie remakes of its animated classics. Aside from the recent release of “Cinderella,” which starred Lily James as the glass-slippered heroine, the studio is developing a live-action “Beauty and the Beast” with Emma Watson and Dan Stevens. This week, it announced plans for a live-action “Winnie the Pooh.”
